Abbas meets Israeli delegation in Ramallah

Wednesday 14-December-2016

Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday evening reiterated his keenness on retaining channels of communication with Israeli figures during a meeting with an Israeli delegation at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

According to WAFA news agency the delegation was composed of former Israeli ministers and Knesset members including Ophir Pines-Paz Haim Oron Amram Mitzna and Shimon Shetreet.

Abbas briefed the delegation on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and highlighted the international efforts to hold a peace conference in Paris.

He stressed the importance of obtaining support from the international community and peace advocates in Israel for the French initiative to hold a conference in the presence of Palestinians and Israelis together.

Abbas also expressed his commitment to being in touch with Israeli figures from different spectra to promote the achievement of peace based on the principle of the two-state solution.

The PA chief insistently shows keenness on attending the intended peace conference in France despite the strong Israeli rejection of the French initiative itself.

He also ignores the wide popular opposition to the Palestinian participation in the conference.
