Abbas’s presidential guards shell the Islamic University in Gaza

GAZA (PIC)– President Mahmoud Abbas’s presidential guards and Preventive Security elements Thursday night attacked the Islamic University in Gaza City with RPG’s and mortars according to local sources.

Eyewitnesses said that two buildings caught fire as a result of the bombing.

The presidential guards supported by Preventive Security elements raided that university firing at everything that moved. A number of university guards who are not armed were wounded in the attack and the invading forces prevented Ambulances from reaching the wounded.

The Rector of the University Dr. Kamalin Shaath in a press release that they were surprised with this dramatic turn of events as the university was an academic institution that serves thousands of students and should be spared the chaos prevailing in the Strip.

The presidential guards then besieged nearby complex of ministries and clashes erupted in the neighborhood.

Meanwhile Mushir al-Masri a Hamas lawmaker mocked claims of the Presidential Guards that they found arms and five Iranians in the University saying that how did the Iranian enter into Gaza the border crossings of which are controlled by the Presidential Guards.

He further considered such a claim as an invitation to the Israelis to bomb the university.

“The mutiny trend has allowed itself to transgress against Palestinian blood academic institutions mosques and homes in a desperate attempt to regain the power they lost even if Palestinian blood was the price” he said.

He further accused the “mutiny trend” of aiming to thwart the government reverse the Palestinian democratic experience with American arms and money.
