Abu Marzouk: Hamas’s top priority is to continue building its strength

Thursday 16-December-2021

Deputy head of Hamas’s foreign political bureau Mousa Abu Marzouk has affirmed that his Movement’s first priority is to continue building up its strength pointing out that a road map for achieving a prisoner swap deal was already submitted to the Egyptian mediator.

In an interview conducted with him by the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) the Hamas official talked about several major issues affecting the Palestinian scene in general.

Answering a question about Hamas’s vision to heal the national rift in the Palestinian arena Abu Marzouk said that this vision comes in the context of the Movement’s self-motivated position toward the importance of achieving national unity and having one Palestinian voice and one leadership.

He also said that his Movement is fully aware of the seriousness of the current Palestinian situation and the need to have one position representing the Palestinian people.

The Hamas leader also talked about the issue of the Palestinian prisoners and the efforts to release them affirming that the Egyptian mediator had received an inclusive road map for striking an “honorable” prisoner swap deal from his Movement.

However he expressed his belief that the current Israeli government is fragile and weak and has no courage and will to achieve such deal.

Replying to a question about Hamas’s future priorities following its recent internal elections the Hamas leader affirmed that the Hamas leadership always revisits its priorities which are mainly related to resisting the occupation defending the holy sites liberating the land and ending the blockade on Gaza.

He highlighted that his Movement’s first priority is to build up its strength and strengthen all forms of resistance describing it as the most effective way to confront the Zionist project.
