Member of Hamas’s political bureau Mousa Abu Marzouk has said that the reconciliation talks between his Movement and Fatah has come to a halt as a result of the intransigent attitude that Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas had showed recently in Doha.
In press remarks to al-Araby al-Jadeed newspaper Abu Marzouk stated that Abbas had insisted on his preconditions for the achievement of the Palestinian reconciliation during his meeting last month with top Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital city of Doha.
The Hamas official affirmed that there would be no more reconciliation meetings unless the leadership of Fatah changed its position and accepted to talk about what had been agreed upon previously.
Speaking about the initiative that was put forth by the Islamic Jihad Movement recently he described it as “more than good” but he said it needs a positive response from Fatah and other regional countries which could play a major role in healing the rift in the Palestinian arena.
