Abu Salmiya: Mladenov statement reflects failure to protect Gaza

Wednesday 31-May-2017

The spokesman for the National Movement Committee for Breaking the Siege and Reconstruction in Gaza Adham Abu Salmiya said that the statement of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov on the disastrous humanitarian conditions in Gaza reflects the international failure to protect Gaza which has been suffering from Israeli siege for 11 consecutive years.

Abu Salmiya said in a statement on Wednesday morning that the UN is part of the International Quartet which gave Israel the green light to commit war crimes in Gaza. Israel has tightened its siege and ceaseless aggression on Gaza since 2006. He lashed out at the UN for not taking any move to end the suffering of two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

He highlighted that more than one and a half million people are living under the poverty line in the blockaded Gaza Strip. The continuous power outages in Gaza for long hours daily and the high rates of poverty and unemployment have made life in Gaza unbearable.
