Salman Abu Sitta member of the Advisory Board in the Palestinian Return Center said there will be no peace in the region without guaranteeing Palestinians their rights of self-determination and of return to their homeland as repeatedly stated in UN resolutions.
This came in the Palestinian Return Center’s statement at the UN Human Rights Council during Agenda Item 7 general debate session which is devoted to discuss the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories
Abu Sitta who is also the Chairman of the General Assembly of the Palestinians Abroad Conference stressed that Israel had committed grave violations against the Palestinian people since 1948 displacing inhabitants of 675 villages and leaving two-thirds of the Palestinian population homeless noting that Israel’s attacks even targeted the Palestinians in places of refuge outside Palestine.
Abu Sitta explained that the series of violations are long and includes the siege of Gaza the separation wall in the West Bank as well as the discrimination and ethnic cleansing and the attacks on religious and heritage sites.
He stressed the need to bring such a tragic situation to an end and find real solutions especially 100 years after the Balfour Declaration and 70 years after the occupation of Palestine.
