Abu Zuhri warns of Abbas’s possible visit to the Knesset

Monday 10-September-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Monday warned PA chief Mahmoud Abbas of visiting the Israeli Knesset (parliament) in response to an invitation.

Abbas’s acceptance of the invitation would pose “serious dangers” because it would mean complete normalization with the Israeli occupation Sami Abu Zuhri the spokesman of Hamas in the Gaza Strip said.

He said in a press release that Abbas or any other Palestinian figure should refuse such invitations to preserve Palestinian interests stressing that all meetings with IOA should stop because the IOA is the only one benefiting from such encounters.

Timing of the invitation reveals the IOA’s attempt to spread the false image of being a peace-monger before the world and that the problem with the Palestinian people was over Abu Zuhri warned adding that such an image would be used to encourage Arab countries to normalize relations with the IOA.

The Hebrew daily Ma’ariv on Sunday said that chairman of the foreign and security affairs committee in the Knesset Tsahe Hanegbi had extended an invitation to Abbas to attend one of its sessions.

The paper quoted Hanegbi as saying that he hoped Abbas or his appointed premier Salam Fayyad would attend the session before the international conference in Washington in November. He claimed that Abbas’s attendance would contribute a lot to the confidence building between the two peoples.

Observers believe that the first of its kind invitation falls in line with Israel’s bonus rewards to Abbas for his insistence on refusing dialogue with Hamas.
