Activists call for performing Eid al-Adha prayer at Ibrahimi Mosque

Thursday 7-July-2022

Palestinian activists have called on their compatriots to observe the Eid al-Adha prayer and Khutba (sermon) at the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil City.

In invitations republished on social media pages on Thursday Palestinian activists called for marching en masse to the Ibrahimi Mosque for the Eid prayers on Saturday July 9.

In recent years the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) seized about 300 square meters of the Ibrahimi Mosque’s premises in order to carry out a Judaization project that involves the building of a parking lot an elevator and rest spots for Jewish settlers.

Since the 1994 massacre at the Ibrahimi Mosque the IOA has been trying to Judaize the Islamic holy site through imposing different restrictions on Muslim worshipers such as preventing them from entering their Mosque and reciting Adhan (call to prayer) on certain days.

The Israeli military authority imposed its control over the Ibrahimi Mosque closed streets and seized Palestinian property in the Old City of al-Khalil following the 1994 massacre that was committed by a Jewish terrorist and claimed the lives of dozens of Muslims as they were praying at the Islamic holy site.

27 years ago on February 25 1994 an extremist Jewish settler named Baruch Goldstein opened fire at hundreds of Palestinians as they were performing al-Fajr prayer at the Ibrahimi Mosque in the Old City of al-Khalil.

Goldstein killed 29 Palestinians and wounded more than 150 others before he was overpowered disarmed and then beaten to death by survivors.
