After long ban few Gaza families allowed to see relatives in Ramon

Tuesday 12-April-2022

After two years of an Israeli ban on their visits 35 Palestinian citizens from the besieged Gaza Strip were able to see on Tuesday their relatives in Ramon jail which is located in the Negev desert.

Red Cross spokeswoman Suhair Zaqqut told Quds Press that its international group facilitated the departure of 35 members of families from Gaza to visit 22 prisoners in Ramon jail.

In early March 2020 the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) decided to suspend the Gazan families’ visits to prisoners until further notice claiming it was a necessary measure to contain the spread of coronavirus.

However the IOA did not allow those prisoners from Gaza to receive phone calls from their families during that period as an alternative to its measure.

Although the Red Cross is allowed every once in a while to facilitate such visits the IOA still persists in banning many other Gazan families from seeing their relatives for unexplained security reasons or because of their affiliation with Hamas.
