Agha holds Israel responsible for any harm done to Palestinian fishermen

Sunday 11-March-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Dr. Mohammed Ramadan Al-Agha the PA minister of agriculture on Sunday held Israel responsible for any harm done to Palestinian fishermen as a result of the constant IOF navy firing at them while fishing at sea off the Gaza coast.

Agha in a statement warned that the IOF continued blocking of Palestinian fishermen’s work was endangering their lives and sustenance.

He charged the IOF navy with directly targeting the Palestinian fishermen and their boats and kidnapping some of them other than destroying or damaging their boats.

The minister refuted Israeli claims that the fishermen were fishing in areas not allowed for them under “trivial security pretexts” explaining that the fishermen were fishing at areas very close to the beaches which only yields small quantities.

Agha asked legal and human rights organizations to pressure Israel into allowing Palestinian fishermen to fish freely and not to target them while at sea affirming that all international norms and doctrines allow workers freedom of work to provide sustenance for their families.
