Sunday 6-May-2018

Alex Fishman Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper’s well-sourced military affairs correspondent has revealed that Yoav Mordechai former coordinator of Israeli government activities in the occupied territories visited most of the Arab countries during his stint in the position.

According to an article wrote by Fishman Mordechai who was replaced by another officer called Kamil Abu-Rukun had a broad network of relations with Arab and Palestinian officials and maintained open channels of communication with them all the time even under the most difficult political circumstances.

Fishman said that Mordechai had used different names on Arab and foreign passports to visit Arab countries especially in the last four years adding that he met with Arab officials and discussed with them many regional issues particularly the Palestinian question and the situation in Gaza.

Although many of these countries do not have any official relations with Israel but Mordechai’s visits were always welcome the Yedioth Ahronoth writer noted.

Mordechai’s star started to rise during his work in the 504 intelligence unit that is tasked with running and hiring agents in Arab countries and recently Israeli war minister Avigdor Lieberman lauded him as “a one-man foreign ministry.”

“During your tenure you became a one-man foreign ministry. Even in my previous positions I have not encountered anyone so well-known in the international arena” Lieberman told Mordechai.
