Friday 19-January-2018

The World Conference in Support of Jerusalem organized by Egypt’s al-Azhar on Thursday called for intensified efforts to announce Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the independent state of Palestine.

This was part of the recommendations of the final statement of the Conference which was held for two days in Cairo to discuss the latest developments following Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on 6th December 2017.

Al-Azhar Conference in which senior officials and personalities took part emphasized in its statement the Arab identity of Jerusalem and stressed that the holy city has been an Islamic and Christian endowment throughout history.

The Conference said that efforts should be made to obtain international recognition of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Palestine and approved al-Azhar’s suggestion to call 2018 “the year of Jerusalem”.

The final recommendations called on decision-makers in the Arab and Muslim world not to take any measure that harms the Palestinian cause or supports normalization with Israel confirming the Conference’s categorical rejection of the US Jerusalem decision.

The Conference in its recommendations called for mobilizing official and popular energies on the Arab and international levels to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
