The Grand Imam of al-Azhar Ahmad al-Tayyib announced that al-Azhar is going to stage an Islamic conference in Cairo with the participation of Palestinian leaders for the support of Occupied Jerusalem as well as the Palestinian people’s steadfastness and right to resistance.
Ismail Haneyya Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Movement phoned Tayyib and expressed his gratitude for al-Azhar’s supportive stance.
Haneyya also praised al-Azhar’s refusal to meet with the US Vice President Mike Pence in protest at the US recognition of Occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
