The three-day al-Quds conference 2 kicked off Friday evening in Nouakchott under the slogan “Africa renews its support to Jerusalem.”
During the conference head of the national committee to support the Palestinian people Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Amat stressed the importance of such meetings to support the Palestinian cause.
For his part Hamas’s foreign relations chief Osama Hamdan hailed the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdul Aziz’s position in support of the Palestinian cause and people mainly his decision to sever relations with Israel.
Hamdan also hailed the Mauritanian people’s solidarity with and support for the Palestinian people.
He stressed the Palestinian people’s strong determination and steadfastness in face of the Israeli war machine saying that Gaza does not fear any future aggression.
The three-day conference has been held amid large African and Palestinian participation.
Several delegations representing African countries have participated in the conference including Senegal Mali Ivory Coast Burkina Faso Togo Benin Guinea Bissau Guinea Conakry Niger Cameroon Nigeria and Gambia.
The conference aimed at strengthening the link between Africa and Palestine especially in light of the Israeli Prime Minister’s visit to a number of African countries.
In his turn the Mauritanian scholar Sheikh Mohamed Ouled Dadu stressed the importance of four main Palestinian issues mainly the liberation of the holy sites topped by al-Aqsa Mosque the liberation of Palestinian lands the right of return and prisoners’ freedom.
