Al-Sinwar meets with Egyptian delegation in Gaza

Friday 1-February-2019

Hamas’s chief in the Gaza Strip Yahya al-Sinwar on Thursday met with the Egyptian security delegation to the enclave headed by major general Ahmad Abdulkhaliq.

A senior Hamas official told the PIC that the meeting which was held behind closed doors addressed the current situation in the Gaza Strip and the latest developments in the Palestinian arena.

The PIC reporter said that the Egyptian delegation led by Abdulkhaliq who is in charge of the Palestinian file in the Egyptian Intelligence Service arrived in Gaza earlier on Thursday via Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing.

The same delegation visited the coastal enclave on 10 and 11 January and held meetings with the head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya Fatah movement and other Palestinian groups.

In a related context sources close to Hamas told the PIC that Haneyya is scheduled to travel to Cairo next week without giving the exact date of the visit.

As for Haneyya’s expected visit to Russia the Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk announced that Haneyya’s visit to Moscow had been delayed due to the busy schedule of the Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

In mid-January Haneyya phoned Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and affirmed that Russia is playing a key role in the region in general and the Palestinian issue in particular.

Haneyya and Bogdanov agreed on the need to continue to work on developing bilateral relations.
