The Israeli prison service transferred the hunger-striking Palestinian detainee Ibaaa al-Barghouthi aged 40 from an isolated cell in Ashkelon to Ohlikdar jail in Beer Sheba paying no heed to his exacerbating health condition.
Lawyer Kareem Ajwa from the Committee of Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs said an Israeli court in Ashkelon ruled that al-Barghouthi be locked up in solitary confinement for one week and be banned from family visits.
Prisoner al-Barghouthi has been on an open-ended hunger strike for 18 consecutive days to protest his renewed administrative prison-term issued with neither charge nor trial.
The detainee has also been boycotting Israeli prison clinics and refusing to undergo check-ups by Israeli medics.
Human rights groups have sounded the alarm over his deteriorating health status and the sharp weight loss he has undergone as a result of the hunger strike and mistreatment in Israeli dungeons.
