Alleged AMB members block PLC session

Wednesday 22-November-2006

Ramallah– Threats by alleged members of the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades armed wing of the Fatah Movement blocked the convening of an ordinary session on Wednesday for the PLC director of the council told PIC.

He said that the engineer responsible for audio-visual means and linking Gaza with Ramallah via videoconference had received threats on his mobile phone from anonymous callers claiming to be members of the AMB.

The director said that the session was an ordinary one and was scheduled two days ago in coordination with all parliamentary blocs. He charged however that certain quarters were adamant on obstructing work of the council.

MP Salah Al-Bardawil spokesman for the change and reform bloc in the PLC told a press conference in Gaza on Wednesday that one of the council’s employees was threatened by armed men that they would burn him his only son and his car in the event he opened the PLC offices or reported to work.

The step coincides with the Israeli occupation authorities’ arrest of tens of PLC members over the past few months including speaker Dr. Aziz Al-Duwaik in a bid to impede the council’s work.
