Chairman of Qatar’s Gaza Reconstruction Committee ambassador Mohammed al-Emadi arrived in the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening via Beit Hanoun crossing.
Al-Emadi’s visit is aimed at reactivating the ceasefire talks between Palestinian resistance groups in the Gaza Strip and Israel and finding new mechanisms to bring Qatari financial aid into the enclave.
Qatar had decided to allocate $150 million to the Gaza Strip including $90 million paid for the public employees and $60 million for Gaza’s power plant.
Qatar managed to transfer two payments by the end of 2018 while Israel has repeatedly delayed its approval of the third payment over the weekly protests on the border.
Hamas on 24 January refused to receive the third batch of the Qatari aid in response to Israel’s constant violation of the latest ceasefire agreements.
Over two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been living under crippling blockade since 2006 when Hamas won the legislative elections.
