Another political detainee in Abbas’s jails rushed to hospital

Tuesday 10-February-2009

RAMALLAH (PIC)– Palestinian political detainee in the jails of Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas was rushed to Tulkarem hospital on Monday after elements of the preventive security apparatus in the city severely tortured him.

Well-informed Palestinian sources identified the tortured man as Esam Dhamiri adding he was kidnapped three days ago at his Tulkarem home and that he was now in the intensive care unit under tight security from those militias who denied him family visitation.

A couple of days ago a Hamas political detainee Mohammed Al-Haj 30 died after he was tortured at the hands of the same apparatus’s elements in Jenin city.

Dhamiri was released from Israeli jails few months ago after he spent two years there.

Family of Dhamiri held Abbas and his lieutenant Ibrahim Abu Al-Jazar the chief of the apparatus in Tulkarem responsible for the life of their son urging the immediate release of the detainee who suffers several chronic diseases and couldn’t tolerate torture.

Meanwhile the Palestinian center for human rights issued a statement urging the immediate investigation of Al-Haj’s death stressing that all officials involved in killing the man must be prosecuted once they are proven guilty.

Al-Haj was arrested by Abbas’s security men and put under severe torture sessions that finally led to his death although the PA security tried to refute the charges by saying he hanged himself. The Palestinian public didn’t buy those fabrications brother of Al-Haj underlined.

Family of Al-Haj agreed Monday to have an autopsy on their son’s body with the aim to challenge the allegations of the PA security. According to the center torture is prohibited under the PA law.

Last year the PA intelligence department then under the command of Tawfik Al-Tirawi murdered Hamas’s political leader Majd Barghouthi under torture. Signs of severe torture were very clear on Barghouthi’s lifeless body although the department attempted to deceive the Palestinian public by alleging Barghouthi died of a heart attack.

In a related matter Abbas’s militias blocked the way of the prominent Palestinian political science professor Dr. Abdul Sattar Kasem who was on his way to attend the funeral of Al-Haj.

An altercation occurred between the Palestinian professor and the PA militias that finally ended with allowing him to pursue his ride to Tulkarem.

During the funeral Kasem spoke before the mourners stressing that the resistance is the only way capable of liberating the occupied Palestinian lands and the only mean to free Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails calling on Abbas’s militiamen to halt security coordination with the Israeli security agencies and to release Palestinian political detainees in their jails.

Last month vehicle of Kasem was burnt after suspected elements of the PA security forces hurled a bomb at it while parking in front of his home in Nablus city. The incident occurred shortly after Kasem criticized the unpatriotic practices of the PA security apparatuses in an interview with Al-Jazeera satellite TV.
