Arab FMs ask Mousa to reconcile Fatah and Hamas

Monday 7-January-2008

CAIRO (PIC)– The Arab foreign ministers asked Arab League secretary general Amre Mousa during their meeting in Cairo on Sunday to find means of reconciling the two main Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas.

The AFP quoted the Algerian foreign minister as saying that the Palestinians should restore their unity and that an inter-Arab effort was being exerted in this direction. He explained that the Arab foreign ministers asked Mousa to start contacts with both movements in order to try and reconcile them.

He said “We aspire to reach a positive result with the Palestinian brothers similar to the agreement that was reached on ending the Lebanese political crisis”.

Previous Arab efforts were foiled by the PA leadership and Fatah’s rejection of any dialogue with Hamas and their unreasonable conditions.

Mousa for his part urged the world community to lift the siege on Gaza Strip and to step in and curb the IOF troops’ daily aggression in the West Bank and Gaza.

He told a press conference jointly held with the Algerian FM that the continued IOF siege arrests and incursions were in flagrant violation of the international laws.
