Araj continues his hunger strike for 22nd day

Saturday 28-August-2021

Palestinian prisoner Alaa al-Araj is on hunger strike for the 22nd consecutive day on Saturday. He said that he will not suspend his hunger strike until achieving his goals.

Asmaa Quzmar Araj’s wife said that her husband’s words came in a message delivered by his lawyer despite his extreme tiredness from the conditions of his strike and the dirty cell he is being kept in.

Engineer Araj added in his letter that even though he has lost several kilograms in weight he is feeling fine and in good spirits.

Araj from Anabta town east of Tulkarem had started an open hunger strike in protest at his renewed administrative detention.

He did not complete a year outside prison until the Israeli occupation forces re-arrested him on 30/6/2021 and imposed administrative detention on him for six months subject to indefinite renewal.

Araj spent more than five and a half years in the Israeli prisons and he is the father of a child who was born while he was in Megiddo prison. Also his father died while he was in custody.

The Israeli occupation is still holding Araj accountable for a case that ended in 2014 under the pretext of the “secret file” and he spent his 38-month sentence on that case.
