NABLUS (PIC)– Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prison of Askalan have complained that the prison administration shackles their hand and feet during visits by their relatives or lawyers.
Human rights groups said that the Israeli soldiers unshackle the prisoners’ hands only during lawyers’ visits adding that the step is meant to humiliate and insult prisoners. They said that many captives do not go out for visits especially the elderly.
In another prisoners’ issue the Israeli military prosecution appealed against the verdict issued against prisoner Iyad Abayat and won a court ruling increasing his 21-year prison term to three life sentences. Abayat was arrested on 11/2/2003.
Riyadh Al-Ashqar the spokesman for the prisoners’ ministry in Gaza said on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation courts were not honest and were bowing to orders and wishes of the Shabak which claims presence of secret files against Palestinian detainees and demand higher sentences.
