BNC lauds South Africa for deciding to boycott Togo summit

Sunday 13-August-2017

The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) has hailed South Africa’s decision to boycott the upcoming African-Israeli summit to be held in Togo and described it as “an important step.”

In press remarks to Quds Press on Tuesday BNC member Nisfat al-Khafsh said that the South African step would contribute to encouraging other countries to follow suit and boycott the summit as part of the efforts to pressure Israel to abide by the international law.

Khafsh said that “South Africa is the country most committed to the calls for boycotting and divesting the Israeli occupation.”

He added that South Africa’s decision to boycott Israel supports the international BDS efforts calling on Arab countries not to participate in the Togo summit and respect their peoples’ calls that demand them to shun the occupation state.

Earlier South African ambassador to Syria and Lebanon Sean Benfeldt announced in Beirut that his country would boycott the Togo summit and would work on convincing other countries not to take part in the meeting.

The BNC is the largest coalition in the Palestinian civil society. It leads and supports the global Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
