Badran: Cairo gathering seeks ways to boost Palestinian unity

A set of key files were discussed by Fatah and Hamas at Sunday’s reconciliation meeting in Cairo political bureau member of Hamas Husam Badran has said.

Badran said a round of other meetings is slated to be convened sometime later to resume discussions about key national files related to the reconciliation process.

Badran stressed the need for the Palestinian Authority government to assume its duties as regards the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank without favoritism and beyond partisanship.

On Friday Hamas chief in Gaza Yehya Sinwar headed for Cairo to carry out a round of meetings to assess the progress of the reconciliation process.

Hamas Movement in a statement issued on Saturday evening urged the Palestinian government led by Rami al-Hamdallah to take up its allotted mission as regards the Palestinians regardless of their political affiliations. Hamas also called on al-Hamdallah’s government to either lift the oppressive sanctions on Gaza and make real reforms or else to step down and leave the floor for a national salvation government.
