CAIRO (PIC)– Dr. Ahmed Bahar the acting speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council on Saturday asked the Egyptian authorities to allow the opening of a Palestinian consulate in Arish near the Gaza Strip to facilitate travel affairs of the Palestinians.
He said that such a consulate would also arrange the travel of Palestinian ministers and deputies “to ensure a respectable treatment for them and to assist the Palestinian public figures in the completion of their duties abroad.”
This came during a meeting for Dr. Bahar and his visiting parliamentary delegation with a delegation of the Egyptian intelligence at its headquarters in Cairo. The Egyptian delegation included Gen. Omar Kinawi and Gen. Mohamed Ibrahim.
The two delegations discussed common issues and the efforts exerted to complete the prisoners’ swap deal between the Palestinian resistance and Israel as well as the efforts of the Egyptian security delegation in the Gaza Strip and the implementation of the Makkah accord. They also stressed the importance of the Palestinian people’s unity to confront the ongoing Israeli aggression.
Gen. Kinawi for his part stressed the importance of joint cooperation between the Egyptian and Palestinian sides in order to serve the Palestinian people and alleviate their suffering pointing out that Egypt was doing its best to ensure the success of the Palestinian national project and the unity of its people in order to realize their demands and obtain their rights.
Dr. Bahar is heading a four-member PLC delegation on an Arab tour that started on Friday with a visit to Egypt.
