The acting speaker of the Palestinian legislative council Dr. Ahmed Bahar hailed on Saturday the United Nations for approving a draft Palestinian resolution requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s prolonged occupation.
Bahar welcomed the position of the UN’s decolonization committee that adopted the resolution calling on the UN to translate its resolutions into action and not to make them subjected to the approval of the US administration which is biased toward the Israeli occupation.
He called on the international community to stop the policy of double standards practiced against the Palestinian people reiterating the importance of working towards prosecuting the Israeli occupation at international criminal courts for its repeated crimes that violate all international laws and conventions.
Earlier on Friday the UN Fourth Committee in New York approved the resolution that asks that the ICJ “urgently” weigh in on Israel’s “prolonged occupation settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory” which were violating the Palestinians’ right of self-determination.
