GAZA (PIC)– Acting PLC speaker Dr. Ahmad Bahar has urged Arab Muslim and international parliaments to put pressure on PA chief Mahmoud Abbas so as to reverse erred decrees he had taken in violation of the PA constitution.
In a letter he sent to speakers of the world’s parliaments including the EU parliament among other legislatures and to Amre Mousa the secretary-general of the Arab League Bahar affirmed the PLC’s adherence to the Makkah agreement and the Palestinian national harmony document attaching a copy of Abbas’ decrees that according to him violated the PA constitution.
He also affirmed that the council was and still is clinging to the Palestinian democracy legitimacy and articles of the PA basic law.
In this concern Bahar highlighted that the PLC is the legitimate democratic institution being elected by the Palestinian people and thus he urged those regional and international parties to pressure Abbas to reverse his latest decrees that suspended democracy in Palestine.
“By issuing such illegitimate edicts the PA chief had turned his back to the Makkah agreement and the inter-Palestinian national harmony document” affirmed Bahar as he deprecated Abbas’ suspension of a number of articles in the PA basic law to fit his desire.
He also underlined that the PA unity government was accomplished under Arab and Muslim patronage and with full Arab unanimity and thus it couldn’t be easily dissolved.
“The PA president must listen to prudent and rational calls on him to sit for dialogue in order to enhance the Makkah agreement because the alternative will be very dangerous on the future of the Palestinian people and its just cause” Bahar furthermore underscored.
Abbas’ conspiracy:
In a related matter the Hebrew daily Ha’aretz newspaper unveiled that Abbas and his close associates had worked with the US and Israeli governments to topple Hamas government and circumvent results of the PA legislative elections.
The paper also affirmed that UN deputy secretary-general and his Middle East envoy Alfaro De Soto had sent a “secret” letter to Ban-Ki Moon the UN secretary-general affirming such plan.
The paper further quoted Soto as saying in the letter that a PA unity government was easy to be formed in the immediate aftermath of the PA legislative elections that Hamas won but the USA pressured the Quartet Committee to impose the three conditions on the PA government and warned its allies in Fatah not to participate in a Hamas-led unity government.
“The US administration was also striving hard to push the Palestinians into the quagmire of civil war before and after the Makkah agreement” De Soto further said in the latter according to the paper.
The Ha’aretz also quoted De Soto as affirming that the USA envoy to the quartet committee said in a meeting for that committee one week before the Makkah deal: “I like this violence (among the Palestinians)” … this means that there are people fighting Hamas”.
De Soto also unveiled that close aides of Abbas acknowledged to him (De Soto) that they had formulated a blueprint plan to dissolve Hamas government.
But the UN envoy revealed that Hamas was strong and could not be marginalized in the Palestinian street.
