Baraka: We are waiting for edict redressing work measures in Lebanon

Wednesday 31-July-2019

Senior Hamas official Ali Baraka has described the Palestinian refugees’ protests and rallies in Lebanon as a natural reaction to the unjust decision taken by minister of labor Kameel Abu Suleiman who designated the Palestinian refugee as a foreigner.

In press remarks Baraka said that the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon’s camps would continue to hold peaceful protests until Abu Suleiman’s decision were redressed.

“We are waiting for the Lebanese government to meet take a new decision and issue a decree doing justice to the Palestinian worker according to the promise of Lebanese premier Saad al-Hariri” the Hamas official stated.

He pointed out that a number of meetings had been held in this regard with Hariri the speaker of the parliament and the minister of the labor but Abu Suleiman insisted on implementing his work measures without no exceptions.

According to Baraka the Lebanese law sometimes treats the Palestinian as a refugee and at other times as a foreigner citing as evidence that the law of ownership in the country deals with the Palestinian as a refugee who cannot buy property and gives the foreigner the right to own property while the law enacted by Abu Suleiman considers the Palestinian a foreigner who need to have a work permit.

He underlined that the issue of the Palestinian refugees is political par excellence and the product of their land being under occupation stressing that the just solution is their return to their homes and areas they were expelled from in 1948.
