Hamas representative in Lebanon Ali Baraka has called on the Lebanese authorities to enforce law and order in the areas around Burj al-Barajneh refugee camp and arrest the armed elements who repeatedly open fire at it.
In a statement published by the official website of Hamas on Saturday Baraka expressed his condemnation of Friday’s unfortunate events in the camp affirming that it was an individual dispute that developed into armed clashes between two families from the camp and a nearby neighborhood and was not politically motivated.
The Hamas official reiterated his Movement’s keenness on maintaining security and stability in the Palestinian refugee camps and their surrounding areas and working together with the Lebanese officials to strengthen and protect the mutual relations.
Senior Hamas official in the camp Ali Qasem Abu Khalil suffered a bullet injury last Friday as he was participating in efforts to contain the violent events in the camp.
Qasem suffered a moderate bullet injury in his back after a sniper from outside the camp opened fire at him according to Baraka.
