GAZA (PIC)– Spokesman of Hamas’ parliamentary bloc in the PLC Dr. Salah Al-Bardaweel has vehemently denied reports on Egyptian restrictions on Hamas officials crossing the Rafah terminal into Egypt affirming the solid rapport between Hamas and Egypt.
He opined that the reports were deliberately concocted and promoted by the Hebrew media in a bid to “poison” the brotherly relationship between Egypt and the Palestinian people.
“We have a strong and distinguished relationship with Egypt and our mutual interests are even stronger” Bardaweel explained.
The English-speaking Jerusalem Post newspaper quoted unidentified sources as alleging that Egypt had imposed strict measures on Hamas officials crossing the borders in a bid to curb cross-borders money and weapon smuggling.
“We distrust news revealed by the Hebrew media as we view them as desperate attempts to mar the Palestinian-Egyptian relationship” Bardaweel further asserted underlining that a delegation from Hamas was in Cairo last week and felt nothing of those “restrictions”.
However he ruled out that Egypt would even impose any restrictions on Hamas officials in the future because he said Egypt knows Hamas very well as a Palestinian national Movement that does not interferes in the internal affairs of any country.
But he acknowledged that there was a misunderstanding on blocking the secretary of the PA council of ministers Dr. Mohammed Awad from crossing into Egypt and that the Egyptians had apologized for that misunderstanding and promised it won’t happen again.
