Barghouthi lashes out at IOA detention of PA ministers

Monday 4-June-2007

RAMALLAH (PIC)– Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouthi the PA information minister on Monday lashed out at the Israeli occupation authority for holding two PA cabinet ministers under administrative detention for six months along with an MP and former minister.

Barghouthi in a press release described the IOA decision as an assault on democracy and a serious escalation against the national unity government and its efforts to achieve a comprehensive and reciprocal calm other than being a flagrant violation of international norms.

He described the Israeli step as an injudicious employment of outdated draconian laws that prevailed during the British Mandate adding that there are hundreds of Palestinians who are serving administrative detention in Israeli jails.

The IOA had placed the PA ministers of education Dr. Nasser Al-Sah’er and minister of state Wasfi Kabaha along with former minister of public works MP Abdul Rahman Zeidan under administrative detention for six months after kidnapping them from their homes a few days ago.

Meanwhile Barghouthi pointed out in another statement that the IOA was refusing to grant him permits to enter occupied Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

He charged that the IOA was trying to obstruct performance of the national unity government adding that its measure fell in line with the Israeli policy of siege against the Palestinians.

Barghouthi noted that three foreign countries had asked for granting him permits to enter Jerusalem for meeting with international officials but the IOA turned down all those requests adding that he was banned from entering Gaza ever since the unity government was formed three months ago.
