Barhoum: Cairo talks between factions will tackle five files

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that the first round of the comprehensive reconciliation talks between the Palestinian factions slated for November 21 in Cairo would deal with five files.

“The Palestinian factions will go to Egypt to discuss five important files pertaining to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) the elections the formation of a national unity government security and freedoms and social reconciliation Barhoum stated in an interview conducted with him by al-Aqsa satellite channel on Saturday.

“The factions will be acquainted with the first stage of the implementation of the reconciliation agreement which enabled the government to assume its duties in Gaza and take over the crossings” the Hamas spokesman added.

He underlined that “the upcoming meeting in Cairo would be a comprehensive national dialog to agree on the details of all the five files that would outline the future of the Palestinian cause and the national project.”

Barhoum affirmed that Hamas wants a unified Palestinian body reflecting the principle of democratic partnership in order to focus on the difficult challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation.

On October 12 Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo enabling the government to run Gaza administratively within a period no longer than early December.

Later in early November the government was handed over the border crossings.

Several Palestinian factions recently received invitations from Egypt to participate in the national talks to be held soon in Cairo as part of the efforts to consolidate the reconciliation agreement.
