Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum on Sunday said that the continued detention practiced by Israel of Palestinian martyrs’ bodies exposes its sadist nature.
“The continuous detention of the bodies of murdered Palestinians constitutes a heinous crime” spokesman Barhoum said in a press statement adding that such a crime reflects the “terrorist and sadist policies” pursued by Israel against the Palestinian martyrs and their families.
Barhoum stressed that the detention of the bodies of Palestinians violates all the international laws and conventions calling on the human rights institutions to pressure Israel to release the Palestinian martyrs’ bodies as soon as possible.
He called on the Palestinian people to escalate their protest steps and call for releasing the corpses of the Palestinian martyrs held by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA).
In September 2019 the Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision allowing the military commander to detain the bodies of murdered Palestinians and bury them temporarily for the purpose of using them during negotiations in the future.
The IOA is holding the bodies of 102 martyrs since 2015 along with 256 martyrs in the Cemetery of Numbers the covert Israeli cemeteries where remains of unidentified Palestinians are interred.
