Beitawi appeals for an end to crimes against Palestinian refugees in Iraq

Monday 15-January-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– MP Sheikh Hamed Beitawi has appealed for an end to the murders and assaults targeting Palestinian refugees in Iraq at the hands of “criminal militias”.

The MP for the Hamas-affiliated change and reform bloc asked the Iraqi government Shiite clerics and Iran to intervene and bridle the crimes targeting the Palestinian refugees who are guests in Iraq.

Beitawi told the Qatari Al-Jazeera TV network that both Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq should unite in face of American occupation of their country.

The lawmaker meanwhile expressed optimism towards the near formation of a national unity government citing the recent speech of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas and the end of the civil servants’ strike.

Commenting on the current tour of American secretary of state Condoleezza Rice of the region the Sheikh said that he did not expect anything good from the visit because the USA has been adopting biased stands in favor of the Hebrew state ever since its establishment on usurped Palestinian lands in 1948.
