Bo Schack: 2017 will be a difficult year for the UNRWA

Thursday 2-March-2017

Director of UNRWA operations in Gaza Bo Schack has said that 2017 will be another tough year for the agency attributing this to its persistent financial crisis.

During a meeting with journalists staged by the Press House in Gaza on Wednesday Bo Schack talked about a significant increase in the number of Palestinian refugees in the last decade affirming that their number climbed from 100000 to one million people in Gaza.

He stressed that their growing number reflected the size of the challenge the refugees face in order to get their rights in light of the regional conflicts.

The UN official affirmed that there would be several meetings between the UNRWA and donors during the current month to discuss the issue of funding for the agency.

He noted that the agency tries to build one school every month to accommodate the increasing numbers of Palestinian students in refugee camps adding that 24 new schools were built recently or are still under construction.
