British Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood condemned Tuesday Israel’s illegal settlement activity across the occupied Palestinian territory dubbing it a violation of international law and an obstacle to a two-state solution.
“It is the long held view of the British Government that settlements built on occupied Palestinian territory are contrary to international law and an obstacle to a two-state solution and we condemn them” said Ellwood.
He reiterated UK’s support for a negotiated peace settlement that leads to “a Palestinian state that is viable and sovereign.”
Ellwood comments were released in response to Israel’s approval of a bid to construct 566 new settlement homes in Occupied Jerusalem earlier this week.
At the same time the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and and his war minister Avigdor Lieberman approved on Tuesday evening the construction of 2500 illegal homes on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.
