LONDON (PIC)– The Oxfam International a British charity organization has urged the EU to immediately resume financial assistance to the PA unity government a mainly Hamas-Fatah coalition led by Hamas.
A statement by OI on Friday said “The best efforts of the European Union to continue helping Palestinians civilians by making direct payments to many government workers and welfare recipients has failed to prevent spiraling poverty which has increased by 30 per cent in 2006 according to the UN.”
“Europe’s foreign ministers should not miss the opportunity of their forthcoming meeting to restore the faith of Palestinians in the European Union” the OI statement underlined.
It warned that such a situation would block the establishment of a viable Palestinian state that would live alongside Israel in peace and stability.
