British foreign secretary appreciates Hamas’s role in freeing Johnston

Wednesday 4-July-2007

LONDON (PIC)– David Miliband the British foreign secretary on Wednesday appreciated the role of Hamas and Ismail Haneyya the premier of the PA caretaker government in freeing Alan Johnston the BBC reporter after four months in captivity.

Miliband in an official statement said that he was pleased with the release of Johnston pointing to the support worldwide to his case especially among the Palestinian people who expressed dismay and denounciation over his abduction.

Johnston himself and his family had extended their warm thanks to Haneyya and the Hamas Movement for their role in securing his safe release.

Only Yasser Abed Rabbo a PLO executive committee member and one of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’s advisors was swimming against the tide when he said that Hamas was the one responsible for Johnston’s kidnapping a charge dismissed by Hamas as “ridiculous”.
