COVID-19 in Palestine: 24 deaths 1714 new cases within 24 hours

Mai Al-Kailah the Palestinian Minister of Health announced on Sunday that 24 deaths 1714 new cases of the coronavirus and 1664 recoveries were recorded after conducting 7251 examinations during the past 24 hours.

Kailah confirmed in the daily epidemiological report of coronavirus that that new deaths were recorded as follows: Nablus 2 Jenin 3 Tulkarem 4 Qalqilya 1 Bethlehem 3 al-Khalil 6 the suburbs of Jerusalem 1 Ramallah and Al-Bireh 1 Jericho and Al-Aghwar 2 and the Gaza Strip 1.

She stated that the new infections were distributed as follows: Nablus 217 Salfit 38 Jenin 179 Tulkarem 88 Qalqilya 53 Tubas 10 Bethlehem 41 al-Khalil 109 the suburbs of Jerusalem 19 Ramallah and Al-Bireh 100 Jericho and Al-Aghwar 3 and the Gaza Strip 857.

The new recovery cases were recorded according to the following: Nablus 191 Salfit 75 Jenin 166 Tulkarem 119 Qalqilya 156 Tubas 42 Bethlehem 149 al-Khalil 386 suburbs of Jerusalem 81 Ramallah and Al-Bireh 163 Jericho and Al-Aghwar 13 and the Gaza Strip 123 the minister added.

Kailah noted that the recovery rate of the coronavirus reached 89.6 percent while the rate of active infections reached 9.3 percent and the death rate was 1.1% of all infections.

She pointed out that there are 207 critically ill patients who have been admitted to intensive care units including 63 who have been placed on ventilators.

Regarding the vaccination campaign the total number of people who received the corona vaccine in the West Bank and Gaza Strip reached 65098 including 7048 who received the two doses of the vaccine.

Kailah said in an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio that there has been a slight improvement in the epidemiological situation.

“Nevertheless the number of infections and deaths is still high while the rate of bed occupancy in hospitals decreased from 115% to 100%” she added.

The minister underlined that the percentage of positive results from the corona examinations is still high which is a serious indicator as the percentage of positive examinations in the West Bank was 21% and in the Gaza Strip was 20%.
