Palestinian factions have called for a commercial strike in Gaza to protest the worsening humanitarian crisis amid the ongoing blockade.
The factions said in a statement that the strike which will start at 12:00 pm Tuesday will include all shops and businesses and will be accompanied by a complete halt of traffic in all Gaza provinces.
They called on human rights and relief organizations to intervene to end the serious deterioration in the living conditions of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
With a poverty rate of up to 80% and an unemployment rate estimated at 50% Gaza is suffering from catastrophic collapse in the economic and humanitarian situation due to the Israeli blockade imposed on it for about 12 years now and the Palestinian Authority government’s procrastination in assuming its responsibilities toward the Palestinian citizens living there.
