The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continue their Freedom and Dignity hunger strike for the 22nd day in a row in demand for their basic rights which they are denied by the Israel Prison Service.
The National Committee to Support the Strike on Sunday called on the Palestinian people to stage sit-ins in front of the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross in accordance with a support program announced on Monday morning.
Nearly 1500 prisoners in Israeli jails started a hunger strike on 17th April which coincides with the Palestinian Prisoner Day to regain their basic rights which were withdrawn by the Israel Prison Service and which they had clinched in previous hunger strikes. Dozens others joined the strike in the following days.
The Palestinian prisoners movement has launched 23 hunger strikes in Israeli jails since 1967 the latest of which was a 63-day hunger strike by administrative detainees in 2014. Dozens of individual and mass hunger strikes have emerged recently against administrative detention.
6500 prisoners are being held in Israeli jails including 57 women 300 children 500 administrative detainees and 1800 sick prisoners.
