The Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies on Tuesday called on human rights organizations and the Red Cross to pressure Israel to stop its violations and punitive measures against the Palestinian prisoners during Eid al-Fitr.
Spokesman for the Center Riyad al-Ashqar said that the Palestinian prisoners on this occasion try to forget their suffering and celebrate the Eid together putting their different political affiliations aside; however the Israel Prison Service always looks for a way to ruin these happy days.
Al-Ashqar added that the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have long been suffering from the sanctions imposed on them following the mass hunger strike they launched in April 2017. Hundreds of prisoners are denied family visits. Others are held in solitary confinement under harsh conditions.
He pointed out that this Eid comes a few days after the death of prisoner Aziz Oweisat who was brutally attacked by Israeli guards and subjected to deliberate medical negligence.
