Channel 10: Netanyahu and Jordan’s King held a telephone conversation

Sunday 21-January-2018

Israel’s Channel 10 said Saturday that premier Benjamin Netanyahu and Jordan’s King Abdullah II recently held a telephone conversation without providing further details.

Seemingly such phone talks between the two sides took place after Tel Aviv officially apologized on Thursday for the 2017 deadly shooting at its embassy in Amman and the killing of a Jordanian judge in 2014.

The channel only mentioned the phone conversation without clarifying what they had discussed and when it happened.

The channel also quoted unnamed Israeli officials as saying that there were intentions to arrange for a meeting soon between Netanyahu and the Jordanian King.

A few days ago Israel officially apologized for an incident when an Israeli embassy guard killed two Jordanians in 2017 as well as the 2014 killing of Jordanian Judge Ra’ed Zuaiter by Israeli soldiers at a border crossing as he was traveling to the West Bank.

Jordanian minister of state for media affairs and government spokesperson Mohamed Momani said in a statement last Thursday that the foreign ministry had received an official memo from Israel’s foreign ministry in which “the Israeli government expressed its apology and deep regrets regarding the Israeli embassy incident in July last year resulting in the martyrdom of two Jordanian citizens and also regarding the incident of killing Judge Ra’ed Zuaiter”.
