Clashes with PA security forces in Jenin refugee camp

Monday 6-February-2017

Violent clashes broke out on Sunday evening between young men and Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces in different areas of Jenin refugee camp north of the occupied West Bank.

Local sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that during those events gunmen opened fire and detonated explosive devices at a PA headquarters near the camp.

Skirmishes also happened between local young men and PA soldiers at all entrances leading to the camp.

The sources said that several young men suffered from inhaling tear gas during the confrontations with the PA forces.

Every once in a while PA security forces storm refugee camps in the West Bank especially the camps of Am’ari Balata and Jenin to arrest what they describe as “wanted unruly elements.”

However its raids on these camps always provoke clashes with local residents. The events are believed to be part of the tension within Fatah between supporters of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and his exiled rival Mohamed Dahlan.
