Confrontations break out in West Bank injuries reported

Confrontations broke out on Saturday evening between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers in Kafr Qaddum and Azzun towns east of Qalqilya city.

Local sources said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) arrested a young man from Kafr Qaddum town amid heavy firing of rubber bullets and tear gas canisters after they quelled the Kafr Qaddum anti-settlement and anti-wall peaceful march.

According to Palestinian medical sources 3 Palestinians including a child were injured in the confrontations that erupted on Saturday with the IOF to the east of Qalqilya city and two other young men were arrested.

Murad Shtewi coordinator of the Popular Resistance in the town said that the clashes broke out after the IOF quelled the weekly march which calls for opening the town’s street that has been closed for the past 14 years.

Shtewi called on human rights institutions to intervene to stop the Israeli escalation against the Palestinian citizens especially that the IOF excessively use live bullets to quell the peaceful marches.

Meanwhile in Jenin the IOF arrested the Palestinian activist and ex-prisoner Majd Azem 29 from Sebastia town in Nablus at an abrupt military checkpoint near Jenin city.

Eyewitnesses told al-Quds Press news agency that the IOF hindered traffic through a military checkpoint set up at the southern entrance of Jenin city before arresting Azem who previously served four years in the Israeli jails and the Palestinian Authority prisons and smashing the vehicle he was riding.

Other confrontations took place on Saturday between Palestinian citizens and the IOF after the latter conducted several raids into Beit Fajjar town south of Bethlehem city.

According to local sources the IOF handed a number of Palestinian youths in Bethlehem notices ordering them to appear befor the Israeli intelligence.

Many suffocation cases were reported among the Palestinian citizens in the confrontations of Beit Fajjar as the IOF fired gas and sound bombs at them.
