Corona in Palestine: 20 deaths 699 new infections within 24 hours

Sunday 10-January-2021

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah announced on Sunday that 20 deaths and 699 new infections with the coronavirus and 1015 recoveries were recorded during the past 24 hours.

It confirmed in the daily epidemiological report of coronavirus that the recovery rate of coronavirus reached 89.2 percent while the rate of active infections reached 9.7 percent and the death rate was 1.1% of all infections.

The new infections were distributed as follows: Tubas 34 Nablus 90 Salfit 28 Tulkarem 39 the suburbs of Jerusalem 26 Jenin 26 Jericho and Al-Aghwar 8 al-Khalil 48 Ramallah and Al-Bireh 110 Bethlehem 22 and the Gaza Strip 232 the ministry noted.

The ministry pointed out that there are 98 critically ill patients who have been admitted to intensive care units including 22 who have been placed on ventilators.

Meanwhile new infection with the coronavirus was recorded among the Palestinian prisoners in Section 10 of the Israeli Negev desert prison. This brings the total number of cases in the Negev prison since the end of last December to 50 cases.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said that the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) keeps procrastinating in announcing the results of prisoners’ corona test results which contributed to the high number of infections.

The club stated that the infections in the Negev prison are limited in sections 3 and 10 and most of the cases were recorded in section 3. Nevertheless there is a possibility of transmitting the virus infection to the other sections as long as new infections appear among prisoners.

All the infected prisoners were transferred to Section 8 of Raymond Prison which is the section designated by the IPS to quarantine prisoners infected with the coronavirus.

The number of prisoners infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the outbreak reached 190 cases most of which were in Gilboa prison in November 2020.

The club stressed the need to seriously pressure the occupation to provide a vaccine for the prisoners and for the vaccination process to take place under the supervision of a neutral third party.

The club called on the international authorities led by the World Health Organization to double pressure on the occupation to immediately release the sick prisoners whose number is approximately 700 of whom 300 suffer from chronic diseases in addition to the elderly.
