Day 26 of Dignity Hunger Strike

Friday 12-May-2017

The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continue their Freedom and Dignity hunger strike for the 26th day in a row.

The media committee of the strike summarized the main events of the 25th day of the strike which started on 17th April 2017 as follows:

In the lawyers’ first visit to the striking prisoners in Eshel prison they were informed that:

The Israel Prison Service (IPS) at Eshel prison holds the striking prisoners in the criminal prisoners’ sections in cells infested with cockroaches and bugs.

The IPS intentionally brings daily meals to the striking prisoners in an attempt to pressure them to break their hunger strike.

The IPS special forces conduct midnight raids and searches that last for several hours to deprive the strikers of sleep.

The criminal prisoners in the neighboring cells constantly shout at the striking prisoners and insult them with obscene words.

The IPS showed the fabricated video about Marwan al-Barghouti to the striking prisoners and their response was that they will continue the hunger strike until their demands are met.

The International Committee of the Red Cross was the first to be able to visit the strike’s leader Marwan al-Barghouti and it did not say anything but relayed his greetings to his family.

The hunger-striker Kareem Younis was transferred to the Ramla prison clinic after his health deteriorated.

The IPS continues to transfer the striking prisoners to other prisons and field clinics. On Friday 47 prisoners from Ofer prison were transferred to field clinics in Nitzan and Hadarim prisons 10 prisoners were transferred from Nitzan-Ramla to Hadarim and 5 prisoners were transferred to Ashkelon prison.

The Mobilization and Organization Commission called for joining the support program of the prisoners’ strike in successive batches to enhance the steadfastness of the striking prisoners and pressure the Israeli government to meet their just and humanitarian demands.

There were many calls for performing Friday prayer in the mosques that are near to flashpoints.

The Palestinian prisoners continue their hunger strike battle of Freedom and Dignity in Israeli jails to demand a number of basic rights which were denied by the IPS and which they had won in previous hunger strikes. These demands include ending administrative detention solitary confinement and medical negligence allowing regular family visits and other legitimate demands.
