Demolition of Palestinian building leaves 100 Palestinians homeless

Thursday 2-June-2022

The Israeli municipal authorities in Occupied Jerusalem on Thursday notified a Palestinian building in Silwan town with demolition under the pretext of being built without permit.

According to the PIC reporter the demolition order will leave more than 100 Palestinians homeless including women children and elderly.

The four-story building containing 12 flats was built in 2014. The residential facility is home to dozens of Jerusalemite families who were displaced more than once after their houses were razed to make way for settlement expansion.

One of the residents Iyad Abu Sobeih said “About two years ago the occupation demolished my house so I was obliged to rent an apartment in this building. But a few days ago we were surprised by the Israeli evacuation order in preparation for its demolition under the pretext of being built without permit.”

For his part the resident Imad al-Khatib said: “Since 2014 we have been trying to obtain Israeli permits but the occupation municipality kept rejecting the demands till today.”

Over the years Israel has demolished hundreds of homes in Occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank leaving thousands of Palestinians homeless.
