Friday 17-November-2006

Ramallah – Prison guards in large numbers broke into cells of detained ministers and lawmakers Thursday at dawn in Nitsan prison and subjected them to humiliating searches according to a defense lawyer.

The assault took place just after dawn prayers and according to Fadi Qawasmi a member of the defense team the guards ransacked the cells without explaining the reasons behind the assault.

He described the aim of such an assault is to denigrate the ministers and lawmakers and it is one in a series of assaults carried out by prison authorities against detained ministers lawmakers and Hamas prisoners in general.

He also mentioned that the occupation prisons’ authority is considering imposing a ban on family visits to Hamas prisoners to pressure Hamas on the issue of the captured Israeli soldier.
