Dozens injured as IOF quells rallies held in solidarity with prisoners

Dozens of Palestinian citizens were injured last night and at dawn Thursday when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked protests staged in different areas of the West Bank in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners.

According to local sources hundreds took to the streets of the West Bank to protest the punitive measures that were taken by the Israeli prison service against Palestinian prisoners after six of them escaped last Monday from the high-security prison of Gilboa.

In Nablus Red Crescent ambulance crews provided medical assistance for 100 Palestinians including three journalists after the IOF attacked their protest.

According to Red Crescent one young man was injured by live ammunition nine others by rubber bullets 89 citizens suffered from their exposure to tear gas and one had a fall injury during the events.

Some of the wounded were provided with on-site medical assistance and others were evacuated to hospitals.

The IOF also closed the Huwara checkpoint following the clashes.

In southern Nablus local young men rallied near Mount Sobeih in southern Nablus where an Israeli military post is located and clashed with the IOF.

Red Crescent said that two young men suffered rubber and live bullet injuries in their feet during the clashes with the IOF near Mount Sobeih in Beita town.

Beita young men already announced their intention to organize a night rally near the mount in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

In Jenin similar clashes with the IOF took place yesterday in Arraba town. The IOF also kidnaped at the main entrance to the town a young man identified as Izzuddin Marzouk the nephew of Mohamed Arida who escaped with other five prisoners from Gilboa jail last Monday.

In Qalqilya City local youths staged a protest in support of the prisoners and clashed with the IOF near the northern entrance to the city.

The IOF also attacked a pro-prisoner march in Bethlehem and showered the participants with tear gas.

In Jerusalem a large number of police forces last night stormed Bab al-Amud area in the Old City and attacked local young men who rallied in solidarity with the prisoners. Two young men suffered rubber bullet injuries one was hit by a stun grenade and another was assaulted by police officers during the events.

Meanwhile police forces kidnaped a young man identified as Ubadah Dandis from Ras al-Amud neighborhood and later decided to extend his detention until next Sunday.

Young men also clashed with the IOF in other areas of the West Bank including in al-Khalil after they held rallies in solidarity with the prisoners.

In Bethlehem the IOF reportedly kidnaped on Thursday morning two young men identified as Basel Daamsah and Saleh al-Harimi from their homes in Abu Anjim area.
